"Sergio Del Casale" winery wine tasting
You will have the opportunity to try also some typical products from Abruzzo: "ventricina", "caciocavallo", "sott'oli" and regional sweets
The lineage of the Del Casale dates back around the end of the 18th century and has is roots in the fertile "golden land" of Vasto, in Abruzzo. It was that a difficult period, but the Del Casale family was armed with a strong will and startS to cultivate the available land, that of the "coast", which is not the coastline, but the steep slope of the valley, hard to work but the best to produce good quality wines.
In 1920 Francesco Paolo, a stubborn winemaker, choses, despite the difficulties, to remain in the district of San Biagio, earning the nickname "Vird 'Vird'" (green green) for the dedication and care reserved to its vineyards.
Around 1950 the peasant conflicts show that many do not intend to give it up to the urban and industrial dream: Antonio grows as a winemaker and a scrupulous merchant.
It is up to Sergio to collect, together with his wife Lucia, in 1984, the legacy of patience, passion and, above all, hard work of Vird 'Vird': it is this trust in family and land values that makes the good quality of the vines and grapes of San Biagio.
Today, grown up with a long and important wine tradition, Paola and Laura represent the present and the future of Del Casale.
Only from a careful care of the vineyards, it is possible to obtain grapes of the best quality: for this reason Del Casale vineyards, with a tendon and counter-espalier breeding system, are managed minimizing chemical interventions with plant protection products and agronomic practices aimed at preserving the quality of the environment and of our health.
Keeping up with the technological innovations in the oenological field, but with an eye to old and often more appropriate rural traditions, they have been trying for years to bring to light quality wines.
«Little light, high humidity and constantly cool temperature: these are the optimal conditions for the aging of great red wines, and our Bottaia, with small niches made directly in the tuff, allows us to get the best from our wines.»
